Dinghies

The Youth and Dinghy division’s key objective is to encourage participation and enjoyment for young sailors in our community and around Banks Peninsula. Sailors aged 6 and up are nurtured by actively supportive families and yacht club members, to develop the fundamentals of water safety, maintenance of boats and equipment, sailing rules and terminologies. With an emphasis on fun and participation, the Youth and Dinghy division aims to provide its members with a foundation for the future to engage in competition and bigger boat sailing with competency and skill. Running out of the Akaroa Boat Shed, members can access the fleet of Dinghies and paddle boards. Learn-to-sail programmes will be run during Summer on Friday afternoon’s and/or Sunday mornings, please refer to our website or Facebook page for updates. Junior membership is $75 per child - no experience is necessary to join. AYC Members with an interest in seeing or helping out with the development of the youth sailing programme are welcome to join us at our sailing sessions any time.
